Installing DesktopServer

Installing DesktopServer is Easy.

Simply download the DesktopServer archive, unzip and run the Installer.
**Be sure to remove any existing MAMP, WAMP, IIS or XAMPP installation before installing DesktopServer.**

The Installer is a blue box icon with a green arrow and begins with the name “Install DSP” (Premium) or “Install DSL” (Limited). The installer will default to the upgrade option if you are using an older version of DesktopServer. Use the upgrade option to easily migrate from Limited to Premium versions.

Now you are ready to create your first local WordPress development site.

Please see requirements below and links for detailed instructions for manual installation for Mac or Windows (if needed.)

Minimum System Requirements

  • Windows 7, 8, 10
  • Macintosh OS X 10.10.X to 10.14.X.
  • At least 512 megabytes of RAM
  • At least 500 megabytes of free hard drive space for installation.

Need to Install Manually?

DesktopServer runs natively on Windows and Macintosh computers in their factory shipped, original default installation configurations. However, using third-party applications or installing non-OEM anti-virus/anti-malware may prevent DesktopServer from operating correctly.

If DesktopServer fails to start, you may need to disable your third-party anti-virus or anti-malware application and/or right-click and select “Open as Administrator”.

If you have BitDefender (Third party antivirus) installed it can produce a false positive.

"An infected file attempted to run on your device.
Threat name: Trojan.MAC.Agent.CC
Path: /Volumes/DesktopServer/libs/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/php-7.1.13
We deleted the file to prevent malicious commands from being executed on your device."

This action taken by BitDefender will damage DesktopServer and prevent it from running. We would recommend disabling it or removing it.
