Upgrading DesktopServer

Before You Begin the Upgrade

For New Installations: Due to installer object caching issues, please make sure that you do not have any older installer packages unzipped on your system (keeping zipped packages are fine). Using the installer is the preferred method for new installations as it will perform checks for existing conflicts. However, first time users may also follow the simple manual installation method for Macintosh or Windows

For Existing Users:  It is imperative that you back up your sites or entire DesktopServer installation before you upgrade.

Install and Upgrade Steps

  1. Download the .zip archive for your specific platform (Windows or Macintosh) from "your account" page. You must run the installer on your local hard drive (i.e. desktop, or user folder).
  2. Unpack the .zip archive (right-click, Extract All… on Windows) and run via right-click -> Open on the Install icon (blue box with green arrow).
  3. New users should select the first option ‘New DesktopServer Installation’. Existing DesktopServer users should select ‘Upgrade DesktopServer’ followed by the Continue button.
  4. To start DesktopServer navigate to the application folder (on Windows at C:xampplite, on Macintosh /Applications/XAMPP). Right-click (Ctrl+Click on Mac) and select “Open” from the pop-up context menu.
Windows users may see the “Program Compatibility Assistant”, please click the “This program installed correctly” button.
